U.S : Help us send 5 Black women and girls to CURLFEST®.

Our members are sharing their experiences of hair discrimination
Chip in to help us send 5 Black women and girls to CURLFEST® 2020 !

Dear  friend,

Black women and girls around the country continue to be targeted for our appearance — and we continue to fight back. We were so happy to see 8-year-old Marion Scott rebuild her confidence with a fabulous photo shoot after her school banned her from class pictures for having red extensions in her hair.1 And Black girls in Washington, D.C. have been boldly calling out racist policies that punish them for their hairstyles and wearing head wraps.2

As we fight to end hair discrimination around the country, we want to give Black girls and women the opportunity to turn their pain into purpose. We’ve been collecting videos of our members' experiences with hair discrimination, in order to show people that they are not alone and it’s time to speak out ! Here’s one story from Color Of Change member, Ariyon Dailey :

We want to take some of our incredible members to share their experiences of hair discrimination on a larger stage.

CURLFEST® is an annual festival that was created by Black women to celebrate our natural hair. It is described as “an empowering and uniquely magical experience where women and girls of every shade, shape, and size can come and be celebrated for who they are, unconditionally.”

Our goal is to send 5 Black women and girls to CURLFEST® 2020. We need to raise $10,000 to cover flights, hotel, and admission fees.

One mom at this year’s event told HuffPost, “[CURLFEST®] is great because visually, it allows our children to see a standard of beauty that centers on us. But also, just culturally, to be in an environment where Black people are working and loving each other, it’s just a powerful thing.”3

Until justice is real,
