Dear friend,

 

 

 

 

No one is more to blame for last week's deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol than Donald Trump, and he should be immediately removed from office.

 

But he isn't the only one with blood on his hands.

 

Corporations like Disney, Procter & Gamble and Ford Motor Company have given more than $10 million to Trump and the Republican members of Congress who incited the attacks, including Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Kevin McCarthy.¹

 

Corporate America needs to learn that there are consequences for funding white supremacist and misogynist authoritarians, and now is the time to demand corporations cut off all money to Trump's Republican enablers.

Last Wednesday's attack on the Capitol shined a bright spotlight on the members of Congress who have backed Trump's attacks on our democracy, violence that was all too familiar to those of us who have been fighting for women's rights for years.

 

Violence, misogyny, and opposition to abortion rights have been linked for decades, with the most extreme elements of the right-wing movement murdering abortion providers, vandalizing and bombing clinics, and attacking women. That's why UltraViolet members have been calling on corporations to cut ties with anti-choice politicians who have long tolerated or even encouraged this sort of violence.

 

But even after the mob swarmed the Capitol, and engaged in violence that left five dead, 141 representatives and six senators voted to challenge the election results, further fueling the flames of sedition.²

 

The good news is that major corporations, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Marriott, JP Morgan, and Citigroup, are stopping political contributions to the members of Congress who voted to betray their country.³

 

However, corporations including Ford, Procter & Gamble, Disney, and Amazon have yet to withdraw their funding streams for these terrible representatives.

 

Ted Cruz, Kevin McCarthy, and the 145 other seditious Republicans are only as strong as their corporate funding, and it's time for corporations to stop supporting these anti-democracy, anti-progress politicians. There has never been a better time to hold these corporations accountable than now, when we have public opinion firmly on our side.
