My name is Luz. I’m an organizer and activist in the DC Metro-area. And I’m a DACA recipient.
I came to the United States from Bolivia when I was four years old. I didn’t even learn I was undocumented until I was applying to colleges as a teenager.
June 15th was the 9th anniversary of DACA. And while the program has helped hundreds of thousands of immigrant young people (like myself !), it has only provided temporary relief for a fraction of our communities.
That’s why I am pushing for Democrats to deliver a pathway to citizenship, not just for immigrant youth like me, but for millions of people living under the fear of deportation. Immigrant youth like me and our allies fought to win DACA 9 years ago, and since then, we have had to fight to protect DACA and our communities against years of Republican-led attacks.
But the reality is that we need more than the temporary relief DACA provides — people living under the fear of deportation deserve a permanent long-term solution like a pathway to citizenship.
With Republicans continuing to hold immigration reform hostage and blocking permanent protections that the vast majority of the American people support, it’s time Democrats in Congress go at it alone to deliver permanent relief to our communities.
At United We Dream Action, we will continue to put pressure on elected officials to wield their power and deliver on their promise to provide permanent solutions for our communities. Thank you,
Luz, United We Dream Action.
