Dear friend,
Thanks to advocates like you, The Trust for Public Land has been able to strengthen the fight to reclaim, repair, and restore Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah and other public lands across the country. As you know, the fight to protect these treasured landscapes has gone on for far too long.
That is why I am asking for your help today, dear friend. In January, President Biden signed an Executive Order to review the boundaries of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante within the following 60 days. DOI Secretary Haaland recently submitted this review, and she recommended restoring both monuments. But in the meantime, four new mining claims were recently filed for lands stripped from Bears Ears, putting these areas at risk of hazardous resource extraction.
The time to right this wrong is now. Add your name to The Trust for Public Land's petition and urge President Biden to protect Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments from dangerous resource extraction today by reversing the disastrous decision to shrink our national monuments!
While we’ve been waiting eagerly for protections to be restored, the Biden administration released the America the Beautiful plan to conserve and restore 30% of our country’s lands and waters over the next ten years. The administration can make progress towards this ambitious and necessary goal by committing to restore Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments today.
Restoring protections for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante can’t wait. Tens of thousands of Native American sacred sites are under threat of vandalism and resource extraction. Public lands carved out of the national monuments — such as the Sand Island Petroglyph Panel formerly in Bears Ears — are now completely unprotected from harm.
Thanks again, dear friend,
Jordan Schreiber.
