New Yorkers went to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the primary election. The victories and early results we’ve seen so far signal New Yorkers voted for compassion and care in every corner of the state. Our members in Rochester are so proud to see VOCAL-NY organizers Kim Smith and Stanley Martin elected in their races for City Council. After so much pain and tragedy at the hands of Rochester police in the last year, Kim’s 30 years of fighting for health access for all and Stanley’s commitment to winning dignity for people currently and formerly incarcerated, promises change for people who need it most in Rochester. In Buffalo, our members have been organizing for the transformation that India Walton will bring as the new Mayor of Buffalo. We look forward to working alongside her and the powerful coalition she’s built, to ensure the voices of our members and people impacted by the issues we fight to change are at the center of government. In Albany our members have been fighting to end the Drug War and overdose deaths. We are encouraged to see Sergio Adams, Gabriella Romero, and Meghan Keegan elected to Common Council -- three candidates who committed to opening Overdose Prevention Centers to ensure health access for people that use drugs. |
