Dear friend, America’s heavy-duty trucks and buses are responsible for more than 420 million tons of climate pollution each year — more than the entire country of Australia. While these vehicles only account for 4% of traffic on our roads, they are the largest contributor to air pollution of all highway vehicles. This extraordinary source of pollution puts all Americans at risk, with the health burden disproportionately impacting people of color and lower-income families. And it’s time we did something about it. Today, more than 20,000 Americans die prematurely each year as a
result of transportation sector pollution. However, that can be changed !
By eliminating that pollution in freight trucks used in urban and
community areas by 2035, and eliminating pollution from all new freight
trucks and buses by 2040, EDF estimates that we could :
Eliminating tailpipe pollution from these vehicles is essential to protect the health of our communities and help meet our nation’s climate goals. We need the EPA to put America’s heavy-duty trucks and buses back on track, so we can reach a zero-emission future. EPA needs to hear from you. Add your name now and urge them to adopt air pollution standards that accelerate the transition to zero-emitting trucks and buses!
