Dear friend,
The new and more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus is threatening to send Americans back into lockdown.
Meanwhile, conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines are skyrocketing on social media, slowing our ability to end this nightmare. These dangerous lies—which specifically target women, girls, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color—are literally killing people.
But there's hope : a new study shows that just 12 people, known as the "Disinfo Dozen," are responsible for 65% of online pandemic-related disinformation.1 That means if we can take down the Disinfo Dozen, we can make serious progress in defeating this pandemic and saving lives.
This is why UltraViolet—along with dozens of partners—have launched a huge campaign to ban the Disinfo Dozen from social media. And if we can raise enough money, we'll launch hard-hitting newspaper ads and billboards in the heart of Silicon Valley to pressure Facebook, Twitter, and other tech giants to kick the Disinfo Dozen off their platforms.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has taken the lives of millions of people—especially women, girls, poor people, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color—around the globe, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have allowed disinformation and fake science to thrive.
Why ? Because it's good for the corporate bottom line. Tech mega-corporations allow the Disinfo Dozen to spread inaccurate and even dangerous content because it goes viral due to the platforms' biased algorithms, which sensationalize content and prioritize clicks and engagement rather than the truth.
And as disinformation spreads, Silicon Valley rakes in the money. Anti-vaccine "activists," including the Disinfo Dozen, reach more than 62 million followers on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, bringing in upwards of $1.1 billion in annual revenue for the social media giants.2
We can't let these corporate executives put their wealth over the health of women, girls, poor and working-class folks, BIPOC, and LGBTQ people. That's exactly why UltraViolet is springing into action by launching a huge campaign to pressure Facebook, Twitter, and other social media companies to ban the Disinfo Dozen. Will you chip in $5 ?
