Friend, Jelani DAY was a graduate student at Illinois State University who disappeared on August 24th. His car was found with no license plates or keys several days after he was reported missing. Ten days after disappearing, Jelani’s body was found face down in the Illinois River, about 60 miles from his campus in a town where less than 1 percent of the population is Black. Jelani’s wallet, iPhone and other items were found in several locations - some more than a mile from his car.
Three weeks after finding his body, authorities positively identified him and declared his death a drowning. Authorities are trying to dismiss the case as suicide and sweep it under the rug, but it’s not adding up.
The police departments in Bloomington, Peru and La Salle aren’t producing information about what happened to Jelani. They state that Jelani’s death is “suspicious” and “unusual”, but have failed to thoroughly investigate his case.
It’s time to call for the FBI to intervene and get to the bottom of what happened to Jelani DAY. His family deserves justice and his murderers must be held accountable for their actions. Yours in the struggle, Marquese Averett, Daily Kos. |
