Dear friend,
People across the country rely on their taps and faucets to provide safe, drinkable water on a daily basis. But for over 9 million households in the U.S., this necessity is contaminated by archaic and unsafe lead pipes.
Today, over 11,000 communities have lead service lines — pipes that connect the main water line to our homes. These pipes can release lead into drinking water, exposing our children and families to a number of health hazards including : impaired brain development, learning and behavioral problems, and lower IQs. That’s why we need our leaders to step up and get the lead out of our drinking water !
Clean water shouldn’t be a pipedream ! Send a powerful message demanding swift action to remove and replace lead service lines across our country. For years we’ve understood the dangers of lead exposure, strengthening policies to limit risks in foods, paints and other household goods. So why not our water ? When present, lead service lines are the largest source of lead in water — impacting millions of Americans every day. By replacing our aging infrastructure we have the opportunity to tackle this incredible risk and ensure that every family has access to clean drinking water.
This goal isn’t just achievable, it’s necessary for our communities and health. National tragedies — like those experienced in Flint, Michigan — have put a spotlight on the real danger of lead contamination in our drinking water. That’s why we need our leaders to take action and address this issue before it sparks another crisis. Thank you for your support,
