Dear friend, March Madness 2022 was the first time in history that college athletes could earn money for the use of their name, image, and likenesses; yet Black athletes are still being exploited.1 We can watch any game and see that the NCAA championship games thrive off the labor of the Black basketball players. But a recent report shows that the top endorsements went to white players !2 This year, the NCAA will bring in close to $1 billion in March Madness revenue, while the predominantly Black basketball players who put in the work to make the season happen—traveling and playing throughout the pandemic, risking COVID-19 exposure—can take home nothing ! The money these players are losing out on is devastating, with 86% of them living below the federal poverty line, and fewer than 2 of every 100 players can hope to make money in the future with a professional sports career. This is why we fight ! Friend, can we count on you to pitch in today and help us keep fighting? CLICK HERE TO HELP US EMPOWER OUR BLACK COLLEGE ATHLETES AND FINALLY BRING THE NCAA’S EXPLOITATION TO AN END! Since 2018, Color Of Change has been at the forefront of several groundbreaking campaigns, chipping away at the NCAA’s stronghold over Black athletes. From conducting nationwide polling on player compensation to joining the amicus brief that led to the Supreme Court striking down NCAA’s caps on student-athlete academic benefits, we’ve made major strides. But the work is not over until the exploitation ends. Help us continue the work to end the exploitation of Black college athletes once and for all. CHIP IN Until justice is real, The Color of Change team.
