Dear friend,
Over the weekend, a white supremacist gunman sought out a Black community and opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.1 He murdered 10 people and injured 3 others—11 of the 13 people shot were Black. The gunman was motivated by the same logic that Tucker Carlson promotes frequently on his Fox News show—that non-white people are an inherent threat to white people. Authorities have found the shooter’s 180-page manifesto, in which he identifies as a white supremacist and antisemite and describes his intention to attack a Black neighborhood. In his manifesto, the shooter spoke extensively about the “great replacement theory,” which asserts that white people are being driven out and replaced by nonwhite people in Western societies.2 It’s a heinous, racist conspiracy theory—and for years, Tucker Carlson has been known as one of its chief proponents.3 Every night, this dangerous rhetoric is beamed into millions of homes across the U.S. It’s the same sort of violent, hateful, dangerous sentiment that has influenced the murderous white supremacist attacks in El Paso; Pittsburgh; Montreal; and Christchurch, New Zealand, in past years.4 It’s only a matter of time before another person is radicalized into a white supremacist who then feels emboldened to slaughter innocent people. The stakes are too high to wait. Sign the petition demanding that Fox News take Tucker Carlson off-air, and his advertisers stop funding hate. Tucker Carlson has built his career on his fear-mongering, racist views. Republicans in Congress and in the media have echoed talking points about "great replacement theory." They cannot escape accountability for actions inspired by their racist rhetoric. We can't let Tucker have a platform driving misinformation and disinformation that’s getting people murdered. Conservatives can defend him all they want, but we can see the truth. Tucker Carlson and his defenders are complicit in giving a megaphone to these white supremacist and racist ideas. It ends now. Click here to sign the petition pushing to stop Tucker Carlson from propagating a white supremacist agenda on Fox News. Then pass the petition along to your friends. Thanks for all you do, MoveOn.
