Statement on Anti-Black, White Supremacist Terrorist Attack in Buffalo Yesterday.

Yesterday, VOCAL-NY released this statement (share on Twitter) with comment from VOCAL-Buffalo leadership:  VOCAL-NY RESPONDS TO MASS SHOOTING AND HATE CRIME AT BUFFALO SUPERMARKET VOCAL-NY Leaders in Buffalo Will Join Allies at a Vigil on Sunday Morning BUFFALO, N.Y. -- In response to the racially motivated shooting at a Tops supermarket in a predominantly Black community on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, VOCAL-NY has released the following statements by our Buffalo community leaders: “He came into our community to kill us. He came in with his guns, hatred, and racism; and almost succeeded,” said Ivette Gonzalez, a VOCAL-NY Buffalo Leader. “BPD gave the shooter more respect than they give most of us walking down the street.” “I’m a Black man who lives in Buffalo. I’m already afraid of the cops, and now I’m afraid to go to the grocery store. This is my neighborhood. Now what?” saidJames Hill, VOCAL-NY Buffalo Leader." New York is in the midst of a housing and homelessness crisis. Earlier this year, Senator Schumer took time to speak with VOCAL-NY Homelessness Union Leaders about what solutions are needed in New York and across the country. The solutions are clear: We need sustained funding for Housing Access Vouchers, lowered barriers to convert hotels to housing, and 20K units of supportive housing. Now is the time to act !

Week in Review.

This past week, our work to pass the Safer-Consumption Services Act (SCSA), the bill to authorize Overdose Prevention Centers across NYS had major movement in Albany.  The Assembly Health Committee reviewed and moved SCSA through committee, paving the path forward.  Learn more about our work to #EndOverdose in NY and our current efforts to pass the SCSA by clicking here
