Friend,
The science is clear : Soot pollution over a certain level is deadly. But instead of keeping soot pollution below that level, EPA just proposed a rule that allows polluters to keep pumping out unsafe levels of soot that contribute to tens of thousands of deaths per year. Soot pollution increases rates of infant mortality, cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, diabetes, and more. And as is all too often the case, these horrible burdens are disproportionately borne by low-income communities and communities of color. Stronger soot rules will also help reduce the carbon pollution driving the climate crisis. That’s why it’s so important for EPA to get this rule right—and so outrageous that their proposed soot standards fall short of keeping us safe. Onward,
Team Evergreen
