Friend,
It’s no secret that Black, Brown and Indigenous are, and have always been, at the forefront of the climate crisis. From the destructive actions of resource extraction companies throughout the 1900s to poisoning of clean air and water in our communities by industry, the best time to have taken action was decades ago. But the next best time is right now. After years of inaction by political leaders, Congress has reintroduced the Environmental Justice for All Act – which would center the struggles of folks on the frontlines of climate change, enact powerful regulations to keep us healthy, and fight back against polluting companies who don’t care about our wellbeing. Shining a light on these injustices and lifting up the stories of climate defenders, frontline communities, and the destruction of our natural resources is a critically important catalyst for achieving real, lasting change. But there’s a major problem standing in our way. Congress was not able to pass the Environmental Justice for All Act during its last session, which means it’s up to us to ramp up the pressure on our representatives to take action. Every day that they continue to delay action is another day our children breathe unclean air, our infrastructure provides dirty water, and our timeline toward disaster advances forward. For future generations, Hip Hop Caucus |
