Alex Nogales just started a petition to Paramount Pictures Stop discriminating against Latinos in your films !

I just started a petition titled "Include Latinos in your films." The Latino community is being targeted by the White House through their words and actions. We're seeing a rise in hate crimes and increase policies targeting our community with inhumane treatment.Representation in film is important in fighting the stereotypes and thinking that fuels support for these actions and policies. From 2007 to 2016 Latinos only had 3.1% of the speaking roles in the films released by the 6 major studios, and the numbers of writers and directors were even more dismal, according to the 2017 USC report. In the newest study from UCLA’s Bunche Center which examined the 2016 numbers, it was found that the Latino numbers decreased even further to 2.7%. Paramount Pictures has the worst numbers among the six studios. Of the top 100 films in both 2016 and 2017, Paramount Pictures released 20 films total. Of those 20 films, there was a total of 7 latino actors, 1 Latino director, and 0 Latino writers. Sign the pledge now, tell Paramount Pictures to increase Latino representation. How Latinos are perceived and treated by non-Latinos is directly linked to what non-Latinos know about us and they gather their information first and foremost from film and television. Latinos are practically absent in both media. We are 18% of the U.S. population and only have 2.7% of speaking roles in film (2016) and 6% in television. The numbers of writers and directors behind the camera are even more dismal, particularly in film. This lack of representation erases the diversity of our community. Afro-Latino people are made even more invisible with the first Afro-Mexican film in history being released this year and the first Afro-Latina anchor on television news being hired just last year. As long as Latino actors, directors, and writers are being discriminated against we can't begin to explore the full scope of our stories. Without a noticeable presence, many non-Latinos believe and act on the racism coming out of the president and his minions on a daily basis. Sign now and tell Paramount Pictures to sign an MOU now! We visited with Paramount Pictures' C.O.O., the presidents of film, animation and other executives on June 25th, 2018 and asked that Paramount enters into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Latino Media Council (NLMC), and National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC).The MOU would detail the actions Paramount Pictures would take to bring about Latino inclusion and representation in their films. The C.O.O., Andrew Gumpert, denied the request and we need your support to have Jim Gianopulos, Chairman and CEO, reconsider. This is not an issue that can be ignored at a time when the Latino community is battered right and left by the present administration. Let us show Paramount Pictures that this is an issue that is not going away, and that if Paramount Pictures refuses to sign an MOU agreement, the Latino community will continue boycotting their films for their exclusionary hiring practices. Together we can show Paramount Pictures that we will not be ignored. Thank you, Alex Nogales
