U.S : Shutting down abortion clinics ?????

Dear friend,

Abortion. Is. Essential. Health care.

Abortion access is critical at all times, but especially during a pandemic, when people's health and economic futures are in jeopardy. Pregnant people need more choice and access right now, not less.

But anti-choice politicians and activists in Texas are making a cynical, anti-woman play to use this deadly pandemic to try to close down abortion clinics, preventing millions from getting the care they need.1 This move isn't just about using a national emergency to enact further limits on abortion, it's also about sexist, anti-woman policymakers attempting to control women's bodies in a moment when women are already on the frontlines of this pandemic.2

If enough of us speak up and show that people across the country demand that abortion access be protected during this pandemic, we can pressure Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to stop these attacks on abortion access. In this moment, when we are unable to show up in person, speaking out online is a critical way that we can ensure that our voices are heard. Will you join thousands of other UltraViolet members taking action ?

Clinics need to stay open.''

Abortion is a time-sensitive and necessary medical procedure. Sometimes, pregnant people have to make complex decisions about their health and future, even in the best of times, often having to navigate significant barriers for care or travel great distances in many states like Texas.3 But these decisions can be extremely complicated during a crisis or public health emergency, when access can be even more difficult, and time is especially of the essence. It should be the goal of policy in these moments of crisis to expand access to health care, not arbitrarily restrict it.

Delaying or denying pregnant people the access to the care they know is best for their lives, health, and families is unconscionable. We must stop this attack on abortion access--will you speak out today?

Attacking abortion is part of a larger, sexist attempt to undermine women and control their bodies and lives at a time when women are being disproportionally impacted by this pandemic crisis, scrambling to make ends meet for their families, while taking care of children out of school, fighting on the frontlines to provide care to sick patients, or working to keep the shelves stocked at grocery stores.4 People in power need to know that we will not let them use this crisis to further their anti-woman agenda.

Other states are watching how things play out in Texas. We need to show a groundswell of opposition to these opportunistic attacks on abortion and show our support for the brave abortion providers who are on the front lines and are continuing to provide quality abortion care to people in Texas.

Thanks for speaking out !
