U.S (OXFAM-AMERICA) : BIDEN's refugee policy is unacceptable; add your name !

Friend,

Did you see the news? President Biden is on track to break his long-standing promise to make refugees welcome in the US again by rebuilding the US refugee admissions program. This program, which has saved countless lives over successive Republican and Democratic administrations, ground to a virtual halt under President Trump’s cruel and xenophobic policies.

Oxfam needs your help to make sure Biden keeps his promise to restore this tradition of welcoming people in need of refuge. Add your name.

TAKE ACTION

Every minute of every day, families around the world are forced to leave their homes in search of safety and a better life. Fleeing conflict and violence, poverty and persecution, many escape with nothing but the clothes on their back.

Unthinkable situations have forced them to leave everything behind in search of security for their families. Despite numerous challenges, they make the sacrifice, summon the courage, and make the journey towards safety.

Join Oxfam as we demand the Biden administration welcome 62,500 people through the US refugee admissions program this fiscal year as promised.

TAKE ACTION

Each year he was in office, President Trump set the lowest refugee resettlement ceiling in US history – until the next year. In his final months in office, Trump continued this race to the bottom by capping the maximum number of refugees the US could admit at a devastatingly low 15,000.

Communities, and supporters like you, rallied and protested in outrage at the Trump administrations actions, standing up to declare that refugees are welcome here. President Biden promised on multiple occasions to increase the number of refugees the US would resettle from the historically low 15,000 to 62,500 this year and 125,000 in 2022.

But now President Biden so far has broken his promise by keeping President Trump’s inhumane dismal refugee admissions numbers in place. This is unacceptable.

TAKE ACTION

With the number of displaced people across the globe at an all-time high – nearly 80 million, twice as many people as 20 years ago, including 26 million refugees – there has never been a more important moment for America to commit to protecting the world’s most vulnerable people.

Welcoming people seeking safety is a strong moral commitment that presidents from both parties have made over many generations, and it was a clear promise from President Biden that must be kept. It’s time to ensure that US immigration policies and practices protect the persecuted and respect the human rights of all immigrants and refugees. It’s what we should have been doing all along.

We need Biden to hear our message loud and clear :

Welcoming those in need of refuge is the right thing to do – We demand that Biden keep his promise to end the shameful Trump policies by lifting the cap on refugee admissions NOW.

TAKE ACTION

There is so much at stake and now is the time to fight for what we believe in – dignity, compassion, human rights, and equality.

Sincerely,
