Friend, Recently, three Democrats voted against giving Medicare the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for everyone. This policy would rein in Big Pharma’s excessive profits and cut costs for every single person taking prescription drugs. Through thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and powerful lobbying, Big Pharma executives have bought themselves influence in Congress. Just look at how much money the three no votes received from Big Pharma : Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52): $860,465 Rep. Kurt Schrader (OR-5): $614,830 Rep. Kathleen Rice (NY-): $84,259 Source : open secrets. The correlation between votes in Congress and checks in the door is indisputable, and in a nation where millions struggle to afford their medication, it is unconscionable. If you are sick and tired of Big Pharma’s influence in Congress, will you sign our petition demanding that Democrats stop taking campaign contributions from pharmaceutical companies? For years, Democrats have campaigned on the empty words of “affordable health care” and lowering prescription drug costs. But when it came down to the vote for lowering prescription drug prices, some Democrats chose to stand with pharmaceutical corporations rather than their constituents. We can’t let Congress do the bidding for Big Pharma, not when there are people dying in this country because of corporate greed. Will you take one minute to sign our petition, urging Democrats to stop taking campaign contributions from Big Pharma? We need to make sure that Democrats hear our message loud and clear ! In solidarity, Justice Democrats. |
