Monday, September 27 @ 9AM: Crisis at Rikers Courtwatch & Rally : Five Boro Defenders (5BD) is inviting us to bear witness to the decisions being made on a daily basis that subject our neighbors to torture and watch defenders call attention to these atrocities while seeking release for each client. At 12pm there will be a rally outside of each criminal court building and 12 minutes of silence beginning at 12PM for the twelve people who have died just this year alone in DOC custody. Please bring signs bearing their names and other messages of support for the immediate decarceration of all New Yorkers.   Where : Manhattan Criminal Court, 100 Centre St, New York Trains : 2,3 to Park Place / A, C to Chambers / 4,5,6, J,Z to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. RSVP : Click here to join us! Week In Review

This week Eric Adams, the Democratic nominee for NYC Mayor, unveiled his plan for more supportive housing, committing to convert distressed hotels into approximately 25,000 supportive housing units. In a statement, VOCAL-NY leader Milton Perez highlighted that while the plan is a step in the right direction, but it can’t be the end of the story : “Any hotel conversion program must match HONDA’s commitment to permanent, high quality housing. We also know supportive housing alone won’t solve our homelessness crisis. There are thousands of parents with children, as well as individual adults like myself, who are homeless and have been priced out of our housing market because of the greed of the real estate industry. #VOCALVaccinated Updates As a part of our #VOCALVaccinated campaign, we are partnering with NYC Health + Hospitals to provide vaccines to those who need them, and dispel myths with our outreach.  Check out NYC Health + Hospitals SHOW program, which stands for Street Health Outreach & Wellness. SHOW is a new model of mobile units aimed at providing COVID-19 tests and vaccinations, wound care, basic material necessities, and harm reduction services to New Yorkers who are unsheltered.
