We’re at a loss for words.
The Biden Administration estimates that around 400,000 schools and childcare facilities are currently exposed to lead contamination.1 But despite this, the $55 billion dedicated to water infrastructure in Biden’s current bipartisan infrastructure package only replaces ONE in every FOUR lead pipes in our country's homes, schools, and businesses. This is disgraceful. Especially considering that contaminated pipes disproportionately impact Black communities and other communities of color.2 No one should have to continue drinking lead-contaminated water when we have an opportunity to fund a 100% lead pipe replacement program NOW with Biden’s infrastructure package. That’s why we need all hands on deck right now. Please click the button below to sign the petition urging President Biden to fully fund lead pipe removal across the country. Communities of color and low-income communities are more likely to live in outdated homes, which disproportionately exposes them to toxic water. What happened in Flint, Michigan and other vulnerable communities across this country is a clear indicator of this. The Centers for Disease Control has found that drinking water contaminated with high levels of lead can lead to brain and nervous system damage in children.3 We must do right by our most vulnerable communities to ensure that they have safe drinking water to ensure their children can live long and healthy lives. Signing this petition only takes a minute. Please help amplify this message to President Biden that lead pipe removal should be a top priority in the bipartisan infrastructure package.
