Friend,
It’s no secret that the federal minimum wage is too low. The current federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour, which is nowhere near enough to afford rent, pay bills, and support a family—which has led to millions of workers being stuck in poverty. Low wages and long hours have been the status quo for too long, and a tool for oppressors to keep our communities impoverished. Fifty-two million workers currently make less than $15 an hour in this country. Two-thirds of workers earning the federal minimum wage are women, and of those women, a disproportionate amount are Black and Latina. By raising the federal minimum wage to at least $15 an hour Congress can close the wealth gap for Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities and move the country toward the economic justice we deserve. For future generations,
Team Hip Hop Caucus.
