Friend,
On Monday afternoon a massive and devastating fire broke out in the Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. So far, no casualties are reported, but hundreds are injured or missing and the destruction is overwhelming.
Here's what we know so far : -
More than 15,000 Rohingya refugees lost their homes and all of their belongings
-
More than 3,000 shelters have been destroyed or damaged
-
More than 90 facilities, like hospitals and schools are damaged
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency is on the ground coordinating with
partners and refugee volunteers to provide emergency support and
protection to Rohingya refugees, but we need your help. Will
you make an emergency monthly gift today to ensure we can continue to
provide safety and shelter to Rohingya refugees and other refugees
around the world? When you become a monthly donor, your
kindness is giving urgently needed shelter, food and medical care — the
essentials we all need to survive. But you're also supporting education
and job training programs that help refugees begin again after the
emergency has faded from the headlines.
Within hours of the fire breaking out, a group of Rohingya refugee
volunteers trained in firefighting managed to contain the fire. Their
bravery and courage serve as a beacon of hope amidst the heartbreaking
destruction.
You can provide hope as well. Your compassionate
monthly gift will ensure UNHCR can respond quickly to an emergency
situation, like the fire in Bangladesh at a moment's notice — providing
safety, shelter and protection to those who need it most. Please
make your generous monthly gift today to show your support for those
who are in their darkest hour, having lost their home and their
belongings, but still have the resilience to rebuild their lives.
In partnership,
Suzanne Ehlers
