| Community members impacted by Rio Grande LNG take to NYC |
Japanese Megabank MUFG is climbing the ranks as one of the world’s worst funders of fossil fuels. In 2023, they were the 2nd largest financier of toxic and volatile methane gas (aka LNG), pouring over $8 BILLION into the fastest-growing fossil fuel sector. One of the projects they’re financing is Rio Grande LNG, a planned methane gas export terminal near Brownsville, Texas. Rio Grande LNG is being built WITHOUT the consent of Indigenous and local communities. In fact, frontline leaders from the Rio Grande Valley are headed to Japan next month to meet with MUFG about exactly this, and YOU can help Sign the petition demanding MUFG back away from Rio Grande LNG before this project moves forward. |
From every angle, Rio Grande LNG will be a disaster. It will further pollute primarily Latine and Indigenous communities already facing the brunt of climate chaos and severe health impacts from fossil fuels. It will pave over wetlands and destroy wildlife habitats. It even has a more severe explosion risk than other methane projects because it’s just 6 miles away from SpaceX — which has already exploded. The shockwaves were felt across the community and debris landed on the proposed Rio Grande LNG site. LNG expansion in the Rio Grande Valley is reckless environmental racism and detrimental to our shared climate. The climate, health and safety impacts are so glaringly bad, that several other banks have dropped the project altogether and even publicly denounced it. Demand MUFG listen to the outcries against it and back out of Rio Grande LNG. |
