Let's take a closer look... As European Union leaders seek to prevent people from arriving on EU soil and to fast-track deportations, they shirk and shift their responsibilities for examining asylum claims or otherwise handling migration to third countries that usually have less capacity for asylum processing and migration management—this is called externalization.
The EU spends billions in public money to support third country forces intercepting and pushing back people seeking safety or a better life, forcefully returning them to conditions where they risk serious human rights abuses. The EU funds countries like Libya, Turkey, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Egypt to keep people seeking asylum out of Europe’s sight. |
