District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert--the only person with the power to indict--is attempting to deny her responsibility in charging the officers who murdered Stephon Clark. She just held a press conference in which she claimed she hasn’t received the facts of this case and needs to wait for police to finish their investigation.1 But we know better. We can’t rely on the police to investigate themselves and she already has all the facts she needs to indict-- she just doesn’t want to. In fact, since 2015 she has neglected to bring charges in 22 cases involving killer cops. We can’t stop calling out her lies and demanding justice for Stephon’s family.
That’s why Color of Change is placing a full-page ad in The Sacramento Bee tomorrow morning demanding that District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert charge Officers Terrence Mercadal and Jared Robinet for the murder of Stephon Clark--and letting her know that 100,000 Color Of Change members stand behind that demand. But we need to raise $20,000 in order to place the ad--can you chip in $3?
The Sacramento Bee is the most widely circulated paper in California's capital that has provided extensive coverage of Stephon's murder. DA Schubert will feel the impact of the more than 100,000 people who have stood up and said enough is enough.
Community members and people across the country have protested, rallied, and made phone calls to her office with this same demand. And tomorrow we are joining Black Lives Matter-Sacramento to deliver the 100,000 petition signatures right to her doorstep--this ad in Sacramento Bee would be the icing on the cake. We need to show her that we are not going away until we get police accountability.
Thank you for your support.
Until Justice is real,
Clarise, Rashad, Arisha, Scott, Anay, Kristen, Marena, and the rest of the Color Of Change team
