U.S : make calls to Rochester officials to demand JUSTICE FOR DANIEL PRUDE !

Dear friend, we just got an update in the case of Daniel Prude — the Black man who was murdered by Rochester police during a mental health call back in March :

Last night, Rochester’s mayor announced that seven officers involved in Daniel’s murder have been suspended.

Suspending the officers more than five months later is not enough. And it’s shameful that these suspensions only came after damning bodycam footage and national news coverage. We have to ramp up the pressure.

Dear friend, you and more than 50,000 other Color Of Change members stood with us to demand justice for Daniel Prude. Thank you ! Now, we need your help to continue the fight : to demand that these officers are fired and charged — and that trained medical professionals, not cops, respond to medical calls in Rochester.

Like you, we were shocked to hear about Daniel’s story months after he was murdered by police. We were saddened to see another Black life taken by violent, racist police officers. And we were outraged to see another example of how police are ill-equipped to respond to mental health crises and keep Black, Brown, and Indigenous people safe.

Dear friend, we probably wouldn’t have known about this case if Daniel's family and Rochester organizers hadn't obtained and released the bodycam footage this week. That’s why it’s so important that we continue to demand justice now — because justice delayed is justice denied.

Here’s what justice for Daniel Prude looks like : the police officers who murdered Daniel must be fired and charged, and Rochester must pass legislation to create an alternative to police for medical/mental health emergency response.

Thank you for staying the course with us during these difficult times, dear friend. Together, fighting shoulder-to-shoulder, we’ll continue to build a safer, more equitable, and more just world for Black people.

Until justice is real,

Scott, Rashad, Arisha, Erika, Malachi, Marybeth, Ernie, Madison, Leonard, McKayla and the rest of the Color of Change Team.
