Dear friend,

The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the police union backing one of the most violent police forces, has just endorsed Donald Trump for reelection.1

And if you’re unfamiliar with the Chicago FOP, they were instrumental in trying to cover up the police murder of Laquan McDonald.2

On September 12, shortly after their chapter President John Catanzara made the announcement, he made this proclamation in reference to our police reform movement : If we keep going down this downward spiral, our whole country is screwed, democracy would be screwed...you will not even recognize the United States of America in another generation.”

Catanzara’s words are an indictment of the FOP’s values - the FOP consistently advocates for bloated police budgets, fail to hold their officers accountable, push for militarized weapons in our communities, and aggressively push back against any meaningful reform. Police unions keep the tradition of police brutality alive and pledge blind loyalty to police officers — even Van Dyke, who shot Laquan 16 times in the back.

And worst of all : our elected leaders, those who should be holding the police accountable, take money from the FOP in the form of political contributions. The FOP and the police violence they perpetuate should have no place in our political system.

Dear friend, sign the petition to demand elected officials take the pledge to cut ties from killer cop organizations like the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

Make no mistake, the Chicago FOP’s endorsement of Trump is a show of force against the movement we’ve built to hold police accountable for the violence they inflict on Black people. It’s a backlash as clear as day. They know Trump aka their “Law and Order President,”3 will try his damndest to block any and all police reform efforts.

But we can’t slow down. We can’t be deterred by their actions. Because they will not slow down.

Elected officials must officially break ties with the FOP. Add your name to the petition.

All you have to do is look at the Chicago FOP’s track record to see how much of a threat they are to Black people. When the officer who killed Laquan McDonald was convicted of murder, they slammed the trial process as unfair and threw support behind the killer cop. And just days ago, they stormed out of a meeting when Mayor Lightfoot proposed disciplinary reforms to the Chicago police.4

Dear friend, is this who you want your elected official to take money from ? If not, sign the petition to demand they take the pledge to refuse donations from the FOP.

The FOP’s playbook to infiltrate our political system is simple : they throw loads of money behind elected officials that have the same racist views as them. Just look at what happened in Chicago just a few days ago -- the Chicago FOP threatened each city council member that if they voted for reforming the police department, they will spend $1 million to get them out of office and replaced with a new candidate.5 And surely, that candidate will be someone just as racist and anti-reform as they are.

Already, the national FOP chapter, representing more than 300,000 officers, endorsed Trump for reelection and local chapters all over the country are throwing loads of money behind anti-reform candidates and even ballot initiatives, like in Nashville.6

We can’t afford to let the FOP flood our political system with blood money.

Demand elected officials cut ties with the FOP for good!
