Hi,
A lot of people are using the term Climate Justice these days.
It seems like it’s being used everywhere from executive actions to Big Green environmental organizations. Unfortunately, in most of these cases it’s being thrown around without respect for folks on the frontlines of Climate Justice.
The frontlines of Climate Justice are communities impacted most by climate change and its root causes, including white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and colonization. Richmond, CA is one such community, and Climate Justice Alliance member Urban Tilth has been facing all of these challenges, in the midst of COVID-19. Last year when the pandemic hit, and things were up in the air for everyone, this group that creates agriculture opportunities in the shadows of a Chevron oil refinery found opportunity in the moment.
While these groups continue to have big wins with little to no financial resources, Big Greens call their top-down work climate justice and bring in hundreds of millions of dollars. Worse yet, they have a long history of causing direct harm in frontline communities.
It’s time that we unite around those most impacted by the insteresecting crises of climate change, economic injustice, and white supremacy.
Thank you for joining us,
Climate Justice Alliance Board Co-Chairs Elizabeth Yeampierre — UPROSE Mateo Nube — Movement Generation.
