Dear friend, Deb Haaland made history when she was confirmed as the first Native American cabinet secretary in American history.
Secretary Haaland, a tribal citizen of the Laguna Pueblo, will be a fierce advocate for our public lands, advancing climate and environmental justice, and Indigenous rights in her role as the Secretary of the Department of the Interior.
Her confirmation is truly groundbreaking -- the first Indigenous person to lead a department with a long and sordid history of hostility to Indigenous people. She will positively lead as an example for all Native Americans and continue to fight for their rights, providing representation for Indigenous people where there had NEVER been representation before in the history of our nation.
Despite centuries of assaults against their personhood, Indigenous people, communities, and Nations are still here and still fighting to preserve their culture, protect their land, exercise self-determination, and foster a world built on justice and equity for all people and the planet.
Thanks for all you do,
Erin Tulley, Daily Kos.
