Dear friend, Last week, Color Of Change partnered with organizations and folks on the frontlines of the water crisis in Jackson, MS to provide relief to those impacted by the month-long water outages. I hope a few of these photos from our Black Joy Water Drive bring you as much joy as they brought me.
With your generous support, dear friend, Color Of Change members were able to distribute more than 300 cases of water, 200 PPE kits, and 200 hot meals to families in Jackson.
Ultimately, the water crisis in Jackson is a gross administrative failure perpetuated by Mississippi’s racist state legislature. We’re calling for clear strategies that address the water crisis — including improvements to infrastructure, PPE, and more direct support to Jackson residents. Jackson resident and Color Of Change member, Jordan Jefferson who launched the #Thirst4Justice campaign on our OrganizeFor platform is also calling for Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Executive Director, Stephen McCraney to prioritize the assessment and evaluation of Jackson’s water system damage. These and other steps are crucial to restore public trust and provide resources to Black and low-income Mississippians across the state. Dear friend, there’s still time for you to become part of the solution. If you’re ready for the water crisis that’s hurt Black and low-income residents in Jackson to reach an end, make a contribution to support Color Of Change so that we’re able to sustain our organizing efforts fully and without pause.
