Dear friend,
Eight survivors have stepped forward and accused Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment in the workplace, and New York Attorney General Letitia James has launched an investigation.
This investigation is essential to understand the system-level failures that allowed at least eight women to face horrific treatment at work, but it’s not enough. Andrew Cuomo has proven himself to be incapable of governing without engaging in inappropriate and abusive behavior, and he must either resign or be impeached and removed from power by the New York state legislature.
Already, dozens of New York politicians have stepped forward and called for his removal from office, including state senate majority leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, at least 11 members of the New York congressional delegation, including Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, and 59 Democratic members of the state legislature.
The chorus of Democrats calling for an end to Cuomo’s governorship is only growing, and he must listen.
Abuse and harassment in any form is unacceptable in the workplace, and may even bring criminal charges against Cuomo. Already, at least one of the accusations of Cuomo groping a woman in his office has been referred to the Albany police. News recently broke that Cuomo abused his power by asking aides to find women he deemed attractive and invite them to work in his office.
All of these facts combined paint a very disturbing picture : that Governor Andrew Cuomo deliberately used his power to engage in a campaign of sexual harassment and intimidation against women employees, creating a toxic work environment. This alone makes him unfit to remain in office.
Thank you for standing up !
