U.S : EXTEME WINTER weather in JACKSON, MS (action needed)

 

 

 

Dear friend, Jackson, Mississippi residents have been without water for a month, with the city still enacting a boil-water notice after winter storms caused outages for much of the Southeastern United States. Though the city has started restoring access, community members still don’t have access to basic necessities and Jackson’s infrastructure needs updating to ensure the crisis won’t worsen or happen again.    Unlike Texas, Mississippians have not received large media coverage of the water crisis.    Fortunately, community organizations and mutual aid efforts throughout Jackson and the state at large are putting in the work to ensure fellow residents have warm and dry beds, food, water, and other basic necessities.          Please chip in at least $1 each to help these Mississippi organizations meet the challenges AND needs in the Magnolia State right now. No one should have to go a month without running water and food ever.          Mississippi Food Bank has been feeding Mississippians since 1984. MFN distributes more than 1.5 million pounds of food and feeds more than 150,000 every month. MFN is Mississippi's only statewide food bank.  Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund offers financial assistance and practical support to persons seeking abortion as well as free emergency contraception, community based comprehensive sex education and fighting for reproductive justice in Mississippi. The Fund is also supporting local water, diaper, and menstrual supplies distribution for the time being.  Mississippi Votes is an organization of intergenerational synergy centering and led by young people invested in the progression of Mississippi. Mississippi Votes is supporting other organizations leading supply distribution during the water crisis.  Mississippi Winter Storm Rapid Response Fund through the People's Advocacy Institute and our partners are working diligently to meet emergency needs of our communities recovering from the recent climate disaster related winter storm damages.  New Horizon Ministries is a private, non-profit, faith-based, social service ministry organized to provide Bible-based leadership and service that addresses a variety of concerns faced by people and institutions in the Metro Jackson area.  Shower Power is more than a shower. We want to bring hospitality to the streets by delivering mobile hygiene services to people experiencing homelessness.  The Yellowhammer Fund provides funding for anyone seeking care at one of Alabama's three abortion clinics and will help with other barriers to access. The Fund is also supporting local water, diaper, and menstrual supplies distribution for the time being.          Take a moment to chip in at least $1 to each of these organizations keeping Jackson residents safe who have gone a month without running water and are in need of other basic necessities including food, diapers, menstrual products, and more.
