Dear friend

One year ago, our country experienced a violent coup attempt perpetrated by right-wing seditionists, fueled by the Big Lie : a series of baseless claims that Donald Trump and his allies, including Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, made stating that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.1,2

That insurrection was a trial run.

Since then, at least 10 insurrectionists have been elected to office.3Additionally, those running for offices that would give them the power to certify state elections, such as David Perdue in Georgia, continue to maintain the Big Lie.4 The insurrection has laid the foundation for a seizure of power by white nationalists in 2024, and we must take action to protect our democracy.5

CONTRIBUTE TO HELP US PREVENT ANOTHER INSURRECTION

In the immediate aftermath of the insurrection, Color Of Change members fought with us to prevent further harm. In 2021, Color Of Change successfully :

  • Got Trump kicked off Twitter and Facebook,
  • Pressured more than a dozen corporations to cut off donations to politicians who enabled and participated in the insurrection, and
  • Launched a campaign against AT&T for funding and carrying One America News Network (OANN) on its platform, in an effort to cut off one of the biggest platforms for the Big Lie.6

In addition to our wins last year, we have also demanded legislation that would protect Black communities from election misinformation and hate speech. The Stop the Steal movement used Facebook to spread the Big Lie and organize the insurrection.7 Despite evidence that Facebook enabled and amplified insurrectionist content, Facebook continues to refuse to take responsibility for how their choices harm us and our democracy.8 We cannot wait for Big Tech companies like Facebook to take responsibility. Our president, Rashad Robinson, testified before Congress, urging them to end Big Tech’s self-regulation and introduce real solutions that stop corporations like Facebook from accelerating misinformation and violence.9 To prevent another insurrection, we need legislation that removes liability protections for tech companies when they violate civil rights laws and use tools to amplify hate speech or misinformation.

DONATE TO KEEP OUR WORK GOING

Our wins have limited the far-right’s resources, which has led to infighting within the movement for followers and dollars.10 We will continue to hold entities accountable for enabling white nationalism by pressuring :

  • Advertisers to pull their ad dollars from Fox News and other far-right propaganda outlets,
  • Companies to end their sponsorship of far-right conferences,
  • Media corporations like AT&T to deplatform white nationalist groups, and
  • Social media corporations like Facebook to remove violent and hateful content.

When we limit their financial resources and ability to spread white nationalist ideologies, we diminish the far-right’s impact on democracy.

Our democracy is at stake. Our lives are at stake. We will continue holding corporations accountable to ensure that they stop providing resources for insurrectionists and white nationalists to organize and win elections. The fight is not over, and Color Of Change is committed to protecting our democracy.

SUSTAIN OUR FIGHT TO HOLD COMPANIES WHO EMPOWER INSURRECTIONISTS ACCOUNTABLE

Until justice is real,
