Hi friend,
You may have heard the tea by now but we are here to remind you that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposal to reduce methane and other harmful pollutants from new and existing sources in the oil and natural gas industry. These protections are crucially needed, but they must be strengthened before they are finalized to ensure EPA is using the full force of the Clean Air Act to meet this moment to tackle the climate crisis !
While you’re practicing self-care and protecting your aura, make sure you are doing your part to cut methane pollution, protect public health, and act on climate. The EPA must strengthen their proposed rule to protect public health and the climate, in order to :
- Cut methane pollution 65% below 2012 levels by 2025.
- End the wasteful and dangerous practice of routine flaring at oil and gas facilities, as states like Colorado and New Mexico have done so already.
- Require regular monitoring at all smaller, high-polluting and leak-prone wells, and work to incorporate emission monitoring results generated by community groups and other third parties into its standards.
In the U.S alone, the oil and gas industry releases 16 million metric tons of methane each year, with the same near-term climate impact as 350 coal plants — now that’s just insane. Without immediate action, methane pollution will continue to rise — and those on the frontlines of this crisis, which are our communities of color, will be forced to deal with the worst impacts. EPA needs to hear from us. We cannot miss out on this opportunity to cut methane pollution and act on climate ! This is your time to shine and make your voice heard! Together, we can accomplish anything !

Don’t forget to let the EPA know that young people are counting on them to cut methane pollutants and apply stronger protections like ending routine flaring at oil and gas facilities and requiring regular monitoring at all smaller, high-polluting and leak-prone wells. Your voice can make this all possible !
