Friend : Late last month, The New York Times highlighted a pressing issue threatening students in schools across the nation: Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) instructors promoting the National Rifle Association (NRA).[1]
This is inappropriate and irresponsible — and it puts the safety and well-being of students at risk. Congress can stop this from happening, but they won’t stand up to the NRA without pressure from activists like you, friend. Demand Congress act now to ban JROTC instructors from promoting the NRA in our schools. Here are just a few reasons that promoting NRA in our schools is a problem :
The NRA acts to protect and promote the interests of gun manufacturers, NOT the safety and well-being of our students. Ensuring weapons of war — like assault rifles — stay on our streets won’t make any community safer. This news is just one more reminder that our current 'national security' strategy has not protected our children. The promotion of the NRA in our schools is not only inappropriate, but also a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our students. We must push for necessary changes to protect our students, and that starts with taking on the NRA’s presence in public schools. Tell Congress to ban JROTC instructors from promoting the NRA in our schools. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer and more inclusive environment in our schools. Please help push this country away from policies that promote violence, and instead invest in safety for our communities and kids by adding your name to our petition today. Thank you for working for peace,Sara and the Win Without War team.
