Friend : One of the last actions President Biden took in 2022 was to approve an $858 BILLION budget for weapons and war. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is an annual bill, passed by Congress and signed into law by presidents, that authorizes spending for the Pentagon. And every year, Congress and presidents add more and more money to the Pentagon budget – for fighter jets that don’t stay in the air, dangerous nuclear weapons, and all kinds of giveaways to corrupt defense contractors — all at the expense of communities across the country. 2023 could finally be the year for us to reverse this deadly trend. We need to get to work right away because while the NDAA may be voted on and signed into law in December, negotiations on what actually goes into the bill are happening NOW. Major decisions on next year’s (2024) NDAA priorities are being finalized in the next few months — and that's why we're sending a message to President Biden that we do not want another unnecessarily inflated Pentagon budget TODAY. It doesn’t matter who’s in charge at the White House. Presidents from both parties have signed successive NDAAs into law that allocated more and more money for weapons and war. Here’s just a snapshot of the last decade :
And unless we speak up right now and make it crystal clear that we will not allow another massive military spending package, history will repeat itself. This is going to be one of the first petitions the White House gets from us in 2023, friend, and we want our voices to be heard loud and clear. Thank you for working for peace,
Sara and the Win Without War team.
