This past Tuesday, VOCAL-NY leaders were back up at the Capitol fighting for the Safer Consumption Services Act and the Challenging Wrongful Convictions Act.
Leaders met with lawmakers and held legislative briefings to push the
bills that would make New York more caring and compassionate. The
next day,
Governor Hochul released her executive budget which failed to include --
or even mention -- any of the policies VOCAL-NY is fighting for this
session. And when the budget did mention issues of criminalization,
overdose, housing, or HIV, what was there has incredibly dangerous
implications. It's time to look to state lawmakers during the upcoming
budget hearings and ensure what ends up in the final draft reflects what
working New Yorkers actually need. |
