Friend,
Like many of you, I awoke this morning to the horrifying news of
thousands killed by two massive earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. While
people slept, buildings crumbled around them — their lives changed
forever. People in areas as far away as Lebanon felt the aftershocks.
At the same time, Türkiye and Syria are facing severe winter weather —
snow and icy winds are making relief efforts more difficult. Conditions
are expected to worsen today and tomorrow.
Families are struggling to survive. They need your compassion and kindness to make it through this dangerous time.
The chaos and devastation cannot be understated. Please send an emergency gift to help families in crisis around the world right now.
Türkiye hosts the world's largest refugee population, including more
than 3 million from Syria. Resources in the region are already stretched
incredibly thin. Families desperately need your help. Don't delay. Send critical aid now.
Because of the incredible support of people like you, UNHCR is
assisting in the response where needed with UN Agencies, government
authorities and other humanitarian groups to deliver vital assistance
and lifesaving aid to those in need. Relief items are pre-positioned and
UNHCR teams are working to mobilize additional supplies.
Your generous gift can help provide core relief items, mattresses and
high-thermal blankets. The ramifications of these deadly earthquakes are
only starting to be felt, and the response of the international
community is essential in making sure that surviving families have what
they need.
I know that just last week I asked for your help as Afghanistan endured
freezing winter temperatures. I am sorry to be asking for your urgent
support again — but I've seen the commitment of this compassionate community, and believe that together we can make a difference.
Please make a generous gift to help displaced families in need today.
In partnership,
Suzanne Ehlers
