Dear friend,
The Target corporation has been positioning itself as a champion of workers and spoken out about supporting diversity and inclusion.1 But what about the lives of ALL its workers--especially, the Black, brown, and Indigenous women--who power Target's growing and profitable grocery delivery service, Shipt?
Shipt has seen demand increase so much that the company has hired 80,000 people to keep up, as the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed how people shop for groceries.2 More and more, consumers are relying on home delivery services, and home delivery service is a major reason that Target's revenue is up during the pandemic.3
But shoppers working for Shipt do not get the paid family and medical leave they need to care for a sick family member. The only paid sick leave that the company provides is restricted to shoppers who are officially diagnosed with COVID-19 or are put under a mandatory quarantine--and even that's limited to 14 days.4 In many parts of the country, getting a COVID-19 test is still difficult, and many companies know this and use this as a way to ensure their workers can't take sick leave.
Shoppers working for Shipt are organizing to demand better paid leave, and UltraViolet and our partner, PL+US (Paid Leave for the United States), are working together to lift up the workers' demands. If enough people speak up, we can pressure Target to ensure that Shipt shoppers get the same paid family and medical leave benefits that Target employees receive. Will you sign the petition ?
Tell Target :
"Provide shoppers working for Shipt with the same paid family
and medical leave benefits that other Target employees get."

Target is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn., where George Floyd lived and was murdered by police, with the city being a focal point for the current protests against racial injustice and police brutality.
Shoppers working for Shipt work side by side with Target store employees, who get up to 150 days of paid medical leave and four weeks of family caregiving leave.5 Target is also providing an additional 30 days of paid leave during the COVID-19 pandemic, so employees at higher risk can afford to stay safe at home.6 Target's CEO, Brian Cornell, made over $17.2 million in compensation in 2018,7 and Target is one of the biggest and most profitable retailers in the country.8 There is no excuse for why Target can't protect ALL of its employees.
Target has promised to invest millions of dollars to support local Black-led organizations and has even given its employees Juneteenth--an annual celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States--off this year.9 But Target could have a real impact on the lives of the company’s Black and brown workers by extending paid leave benefits company-wide to include Shipt workers. It is time for Target to really live up to the values it says it stands for and invest in ALL of the employees that keep its business profitable.
Thanks for speaking out !
