This campaign is a collaboration between UltraViolet and BLM Louisville community activists working on the ground to demand justice for Breonna Taylor.
Dear friend,
Yesterday, more than three months after the murder of Breonna Taylor, one of the officers who killed Breonna was finally fired by the Louisville Police Department.
According to Louisville police, officer Brett Hankison blindly fired 10 shots into Breonna's apartment, and a neighbor's. He could have easily killed even more people, and yet he was kept on the force for months and fired ONLY after weeks of massive protests.1
Our pressure is working, but it's not enough. Not nearly enough. The other officers involved in Breonna's killing still haven't been fired, they still have their pensions, and all of them should be facing charges. So we're teaming up with BLM Louisville to turn up the pressure even more with TV ads demanding justice for Breonna.
Breonna Taylor was sleeping in her bed after a long day at work as an EMT treating coronavirus patients. Louisville police in plain clothes used a battering ram and a no-knock search warrant to break into her apartment after midnight. The officers then fired a hail of bullets blindly into the apartment, hitting Breonna eight times and her boyfriend, Kenneth, in the leg.2
Breonna was 26 years old.
The killing of Breonna Taylor happened on March 13, more than three months ago. And yet only after massive, nationwide public protests did anything happen at all.
But now we're getting real results. Last week, the Louisville City Council banned no-knock warrants, and now one of the officers has been fired. These are positive developments, but we need to send a message loud and clear to the Louisville police, mayor, and council that it's not nearly enough. We're joining the Taylor family in calling on for the officers to be fired, charged, and have their pensions revoked to ensure justice for Breonna.
Our first ad blitz, including newspaper ads and an airplane banner, clearly had an impact. With your help, we'll be able to go even bigger, launching a TV ad in Louisville. Will you donate $5?
