Dear friend,
Across the country we’ve witnessed the growth of a powerful movement to defund the police and reinvest in Black and Brown communities. In New York City, we’ve made our demand clear : no budget without defunding the $6 billion NYPD budget by at least $1 billion this year.
The City’s budget will be passed on June 30th. That means we are running out of time to dramatically reduce the NYPD budget by at least $1 billion and invest in housing, healthcare, social services, and education. We need all hands on deck now.
On Tuesday, June 23rd at 5PM - the day of the primary election and exactly one week before the budget passes - we’re taking action to make sure the Mayor and City Council know New Yorkers will no longer accept a budget that prioritizes the militarization and power of police over the needs of Black and Brown communities.
What : Occupy City Hall to #DefundNYPD by at least $1 Billion & Invest in Communities
When : Tuesday, June 23rd @ 5PM
Where : City Hall (Meet at Chambers & Center Street)
Where : City Hall (Meet at Chambers & Center Street)
On June 23rd, GO VOTE and then show up at City Hall at 5PM (or join us online) ! Please bring masks and a commitment to personal steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We will provide masks for those who need them.
In solidarity,
Jawanza.
