Dear friend, the families of missing and murdered Black women and girls deserve answers. Minnesota Representative Ruth Richardson is working to get answers for those families in her state. In September, Minnesota passed a bill that created a Missing and Murdered African American Women Task Force, introduced by Representative Ruth Richardson. Despite there being over 64,000 missing Black women and girls, their cases are under-represented in the media and as Richardson notes, are open 4x longer than others. As we’ve seen recently, media attention can mean all the difference in finding missing persons. This lack of representation in publicity for cases involving murdered and missing Black women and girls voids these cases of resources and necessary public awareness that can mean all the difference for victims and their families. Our legislatures have a responsibility to address the disparity in which these cases are handled. As Representative Richardson writes, “we are overdue for a community response". The same is true for communities across the country, whose murdered and missing persons cases of Black women and girls lack the necessary funding, resources, and public awareness needed to reunite some families, and bring answers to others. Keep fighting, Jayleen, Daily Kos. | |||||
