Week In Review

VOCAL-NY leaders continue to demand Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer hold the line as Biden’s Build Back Better plan is held up in Congress. At an event last week, leaders were able to get Sen. Schumer on the phone to make their demands. And this week, VOCAL-NY leaders joined other activists in sending a message to Sen. Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries about the necessity for housing and climate change funding. As Althea Matthews, a leader with VOCAL-NY’s Homelessness Union, said at the rally : “I am tired. I live in a shelter. They’re talking about cutting money for Section 8 vouchers for 69,000 families in New York. We have 92,000 homeless in this state. This is ridiculous !”

#VOCALVaccinated Updates   As a part of our #VOCALVaccinated campaign, we are partnering with NYC Health + Hospitals to provide vaccines to those who need them, and dispel myths with our outreach.  Check out NYC Health + Hospitals SHOW program, which stands for Street Health Outreach & Wellness. SHOW is a new model of mobile units aimed at providing COVID-19 tests and vaccinations, wound care, basic material necessities, and harm reduction services to New Yorkers who are unsheltered.
