Friend, Over the past 2 weeks, world leaders were in Glasgow, Scotland at the international climate conference, COP26, determining the fate of our planet and communities around the world. While the pact reached in Glasgow made some strides, it sadly fell far short of the commitments needed to tackle climate change and it did not deliver the outcomes many had hoped for to meet the urgency of the moment. The fight to ensure climate justice continues, but we must not despair. There is no denying it — climate change is a global emergency. Those impacted the most often come from vulnerable communities with few resources to weather the ongoing crisis. It’s time for the wealthiest countries and corporations to be held accountable for doing the most harm to our planet and vulnerable communities. COP26 was a start, but it did not go nearly far enough. As the leader of the country that has done the most damage to our climate, President Biden has an obligation to ramp up action on climate change. That’s why we are demanding that the Biden administration do more to urgently reduce emissions and help the most impacted communities, who have done the least to cause the climate crisis. Add your name. As youth activist Greta Thunberg said, we’ve had enough “blah blah blah”. It’s time for the Biden administration to put promises into action. It’s essential that pledges made on the world stage are backed up by meaningful action at home. This requires engaging the whole of government and Congressional action. The sirens are sounding. Thank you for speaking up, Gina Cummings Vice President of Alliances, Advocacy, and Policy Oxfam America. Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612. |
