U.S (Oxfam America) : BIDEN, refugee families at the border need your help.

Last year, as part of its xenophobic and anti-immigrant agenda, the Trump administration began using an obscure law called Title 42 to expel refugees seeking asylum under the false pretext of COVID-19. 

 

This policy, which was implemented over the objections of government scientists who said it wasn’t necessary to protect public health, has already exposed hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers to the risk of serious harm including kidnapping, rape, and murder as they are expelled to Mexico or their home countries. 

 

During his campaign, President Biden pledged to reverse cruel anti-immigrant policies like this. However, in spite of his promises, the Biden administration is continuing to implement this inhumane policy of turning back families seeking asylum.

Every day that goes by with this policy in place is a day when another person is sent back into harm's way, facing violence and possibly even death. The US has the resources to provide life-saving refuge to people in desperate need of safety but is instead sending them back into harm’s way without even hearing their cases. This is unacceptable. 

 

The US must live up to its obligations to people fleeing violence and persecution.
