July
1st marked 50 years since the establishment of the Drug Enforcement
Agency (DEA). Last week, VOCAL-NY launched a letter campaign for the
public to demand federal representatives reallocate at least half of the
DEA’s $3 billion budget to fund public health, services, and care for
people who use drugs. To demand your representatives support this measure, click here to send a letter. On Monday, the MTA opened 36 bathrooms across
subway stations – signifying a victory for the #FreetoPee campaign
led by those experiencing homelessness in New York City. VOCAL-NY
continues to advocate for public bathrooms to be accessible to all New
Yorkers. Also,
last week, VOCAL-NY’s Positive Leaders Union held its monthly town hall
assembly to share more about our city campaigns, which include
demanding a functional and accountable HASA, and affordable permanent
housing.
