As GOP lawmakers try to distract people with fabricated culture wars, they continuously neglect the real crises in our communities. It is our moral obligation as legislators and leaders to stop mass shootings and that starts with reinstating the assault weapons ban. We must continue putting the pressure on legislators both in Congress and in our own communities to end the endemic of gun violence. The U.S. is the number one source of semi-automatic weapons in El Salvador, approximately half a million guns are trafficked to Mexico each year, and 70% to 90% of guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico have been tracked back to the U.S. Every action has a reaction, friend. And our country’s lack of action on gun violence is having a wider impact than we could ever imagine. We cannot keep living this way.
