Human activities destroyed more than 16 million acres of forest in 2022. With every inch of forest we lose, we get closer to irreversible climate tipping points. “That 2030 goal is not just nice to have; it is essential for maintaining a liveable climate for humanity,” said Erin Matson, senior consultant at Climate Focus and coordinator for the Forest Declaration Assessment. “We are investing in activities that are harmful for forests at far higher rates than we are investing in activities that are beneficial for forests,” she added.
