We’re disappointed that the House has voted to censure Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian American in Congress, for drawing attention to the human victims of the Israeli government’s campaign of violence in Gaza.
Over 70% of Gaza’s population has had to flee their homes, and the numbers injured and killed have risen to horrifying tolls.
Rep. Tlaib used her voice while so many in Congress remain silent in the face of this violence to protect lives on both sides of the conflict. Collective punishment won’t bring Israeli hostages back any sooner. Only diplomacy can. We need a ceasefire to bring both sides together and start peace talks.
Tlaib, along with 12 of her colleagues introduced the Ceasefire Now Resolution to immediately de-escalate the situation in occupied Palestine and save as many lives as possible. Since the resolution's introduction, six more Democrats have co-sponsored it, but we can’t let the momentum for this critical resolution be silenced.
