Friend,
Rep. Rashida Tlaib is the first Palestinian-American woman to serve in Congress. Since her election in 2018, has been a powerful voice for peace and justice for people of all faiths and all nationalities. But ever since the Israel-Gaza war began on October 7th, she has come under attack for recognizing that we can’t bomb our way to peace. Rashida called for a ceasefire. And her colleagues in the House of Representatives censured her for it. Tell Congress: The censure of Rashida Tlaib is shameful! Rashida has repeatedly called for a ceasefire, for humanitarian aid, for the release of hostages and those arbitrarily detained, and for every American to come home. If the United States government and the world do not speak out now, more lives will be lost. That’s why Rashida is speaking up. But by standing up, she’s being told by 234 members of the Congress that her voice does not matter and that the lives of millions of Palestinians trapped in Gaza do not matter. The 212 Republicans and 22 Democrats who voted to censure Rashida should be ashamed of themselves. Since the war began, eliminationist rhetoric has been deployed wildly from members of Congress. Senator Lindsey Graham went on Fox News to say that Israel should “level” Gaza. Rep. Brian Mast wore an Israeli military uniform to the House floor and compared Palestinians to Nazis. Senator Marco Rubio tweeted that Israel “must respond DISPROPORTIONATELY.” These statements are advocating for war crimes. In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
